Aurelius,
Many thanks for the scans. And welcome to JWD!
Aurelius,
Many thanks for the scans. And welcome to JWD!
you don't need to exaggerate the foibles of jws to get the point across that they are not "the truth".
can you state some facts that show that jehovah's witnesses are not "normal' and that their religion is weird and simply abnormal?.
The catholic cross represents a penis.
Isn't it that the upright 'member' represents a penis, and the horizontal 'member' represents a vulva; thus the two parts combined represent sexual intercourse?
Regarding blacks becoming white, this is the 1900 Watchtower:
This is the 1904 Watchtower:
hey all, i posted this in another thread but thought it deserved its own.. here is a perfect example of the blatant disregard wt writers show towards previously written articles.
they just write what sounds good at the time without considering the fact that they just might be actually contradicting themselves.. so here it is:.
flip-flop alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
(August 15, 1950, page 263) "The brothers preparing these publications are not infallible. Their writings are not inspired as are those of Paul and the other Bible writers. (2 Tim. 3:16) And so, at times, it has been necessary, as understanding became clearer, to correct views. (Prov. 4:18)"
I hope you don't mind me mentioning that the above quote is not from the 1950 Watchtower, but from The Watchtower, 15 February 1981, p 19.
Interestingly, however, along similar lines, The Watchtower, August 15, 1950, page 263 does make an interesting comment:
However, The Watchtower does not claim to be inspired in its utterances, nor is it dogmatic. It invites careful and critical examination of its contents in the light of the Scriptures.
Not "dogmatic" ... ? Ha, who are they trying to fool?!
And are they perhaps telling little 'porky pies' when they say they 'invite critical examination' of their publications ... ?
my da announcement was last tuesday, so i have been on the official jw shun list for about a week now.... i am curious how you handle shunning.my situation:.
i have spoken with my family (my parents and 1 brother) and discussed whether they will shun me.
i explained that biblically they should not shun me since i am not an antichrist, and i have not rejected the teaching that jesus cam in the flesh.
Great thread, thanks, A@G.
The most hurtful shunning is from those in my family I still care about. I won't pretend it's not painful.
The way I handle it, as others have mentioned, is by turning it around and freely talking about it -- after all, I've done nothing to be ashamed of.
Most people have tended to think of JWs as harmless eccentics, but are shocked and find it almost unbelievable that they can be so cruel and heartless. When they then hear about child abuse, blood, etc, they begin to understand why JWs are such a dangerous cult. I strongly believe it's the most powerful anti-witness we can give.
Ironically, of all my old JW 'friends,' those in Brooklyn are among the ones who still keep in touch most regularly ...
a trustworthy source has given me the opportunity to share some information about rolf furuli.
a well known apologist og and greatly respected elder in norway and a schoolar at the university of oslo.
he does not compleatly agree with the fds in all cases i guess, and lately he has spoken up in his local congo about 3 subjects.. # 1. education.
It also says they are not inspired somewhere too. They like to have it both ways, because i really dont understand the difference.
You're absolutely right.
On the one hand they say they're not "inspired." On the other hand they say they are "spirit-directed."
What's the difference? Zilch, nada, nothing at all.
Why do they do it? It's yet another way to deliberately confuse the 'rank and file' - they (a) assert they have divine authority while (b) maintaining deniability for their numerous false prophecies.
As you correctly state: "they like to have it both ways"!

Thank you for your interesting post.
# 2. Governing Body. Furuli says: GB is not spirit directed.(GB dont claim to be, but a lot of JW belive they are and enligthening the dubs are controversial.)
Actually, the GB does claim to be spirit-directed:
*** w06 4/1 p. 24 par. 14 ‘Go and Make Disciples, Baptizing Them’ ***
The second question also reminds the candidate of his responsibility to work with Jehovah’s spirit-directed organization.
*** w06 4/1 p. 22 ‘Go and Make Disciples, Baptizing Them’ ***
Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization?
*** w98 10/15 p. 14 par. 4 Jerusalem—Is It ‘Above Your Chief Cause for Rejoicing’? ***
What an encouragement such individuals are for all today who view Jehovah, his worship, and his spirit-directed organization in the same way!
*** w97 1/15 p. 22 par. 21 What Does God Require of Us? ***
We must serve Jehovah with his spirit-directed organization.
etc.

I get a '404' when I try this link.
Is there a fault, or has it been taken down?
Thanks for your help.
PS. The JFR transcript is superb. You're my hero!
it took a long time, but i can finally say i'm out and i took my family with me.. this is my first post but i have been reading here for a while.
i was brought up a witness, in a family that was very 'strong' (or so everyone thought).
i didnt have a relationship with my perents at all other than the 'family study'.
Congratulations and welcome!
i'm sure this article has come up on the forum.
can any one give me information on the numbers quoted below, in respect to them being inaccurate, correct, or what the number is more like, when you add in jw's that aren't elders, where it seems like they fail to mention here.
it almost seems they try and minimalize the the amount of abuse by only speaking of the elders here.
During the last 100 years, only eleven elders have been sued for child abuse in thirteen lawsuits filed in the United States. In seven of these lawsuits against the elders, accusations against the Watchtower Society itself were dismissed by the courts.
It's astonishing that WT ADMITS that in 6 out of the 13 cases (46%) the allegations against the Society were PROVED.
That's a devastating batting average!
